Roger Federer defeated his Spanish rival Rafael Nadal in front of his home crowd at the 2015 Swiss Indoors Basel on Sunday. Federer beat Nadal in three-sets final 6-3 7-5 6-3 to win his seventh title at the ATP World Tour Masters 500 tournament.

After nearly three years, Federer and Nadal renewed their great rivalry at the former’s home turf on Sunday. The Swiss has improved 7-9 against Nadal on hard courts with his latest victory. Federer also ended his five-match losing streak. Federer’s last victory over Nadal was during their round robin match at the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. However, Nadal still owns a 23-11 head-to-head advantage over the Swiss tennis maestro.

The victory marks Federer’s 88th career title and his fifth this season. It is also the fourth time that Federer won a seventh trophy in a single tournament. The 34-year-old also won his seventh trophy in Cincinnati this year, beating Novak Djokovic in the final 7-6 6-3, and in Dubai, also beating the Serbian tennis star in straight-sets final 6-3 7-5 to take the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title. Federer also won seven trophies at the Wimbledon Championships (2003-2007, 2009 and 2012).

Speaking after the match, Federer said he was extremely “happy” with the win, as posted on the official site of the tournament. He added that the win gave him a confidence boost, especially after his shocking early elimination at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

“I thought the match was close,” Federer said. “I had my chances in the second, but he (Nadal) fought back well, like he's done throughout the week really, overall I was really happy how I played and it was a very special day. ”

Meanwhile, Nadal, whose grand slam appearances this season include two quarterfinal appearances (Australian Open and Roland Garros), second round (Wimbledon) and third round (U.S. Open), is now 4-9 against top players. The 29-year-old former World No. 1 said he will be working hard to get back to his top winning form.

“My goal is to get back to my level and be competitive against the top players again,” Nadal said. “And today, I was very competitive against one of the best players in the world.”

Earlier in men’s doubles final, Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil defeated Britain’s Jamie Murray and his Australian partner, John Peers, 7-5 7-5. It was the third time this season that the men fought after Wimbledon quarterfinals and Vienna quarterfinals. Peya and Soares extended their head-to-head record over Murray and Peers 6-2 with their recent victory.
