For Roger Federer, the second time is the charm. After falling to local Aussie native in the Brisbane International in 2014, Federer clinched his first ever Brisbane title this year. The 17-time Grand Slam champion's recent victory also marks his 1000th career match win. Federer now joins the likes of other tennis legends Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl in the 1000 match wins club.

Federer defeated Milos Raonic in the finale of the 2015 Brisbane International, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4, at the Pat Rafter Arena on Jan. 11. It is Federer's 83rd career title.

The Swiss tennis great broke Raonic's serve in the third game as well as in the first game of the second set. The Canadian fought back and broke Federer in the fourth game of the second set. Federer had a chance to win the second match during the tie-break but Raonic seemed ready to kill as he won seven straight points to even the match.

Federer opened the third set with an ace, one of his 21 aces in the match. With Roanic fighting hard to stay in the game, the Canadian double-faulted at 30-all in the third set and Federer took advantage of it and took control of the rally to win the Brisbane title.

"Clearly, it is a special day for me, winning a title plus getting to the magic number of 1,000," Federer said via ESPN. "It feels very different to any other match I've ever won."

According to Federer, the other milestone and accomplishments that he has achieved in his illustrious tennis career don't mean as much as his 1000th career match win. He said that 1,000 is just a huge number.

Top seed Federer, who had a first round bye, kicked off his 2015 season and Brisbane campaign by defeating Aussie wild card John Millman, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the second round. He won his next two matches beating James Duckworth, 6-0, 6-1, and Grigor Dimitrov, 6-2, 6-2, in straight sets to secure his spot in the finals.
