Robert Englund is finally hanging up his claws and bid Freddy Krueger goodbye for good. The actor has played the evil character since the 1984 “Nightmare on Elm Street.” However, Englund recently said he will not be portraying the character again in any remake of the said film and fans of the actor are not happy. The 68-year old took to his Twitter on Wednesday to clear any misinformation that may have been reported regarding his character. The actor squashed rumours of his return to portray the serial killer again.

However, his fans did not take his announcement all too well as some were very saddened by his exit.

Another Twitter user named Kainin wrote, “I won't lie, this saddens me. You will always be the True Freddy, to me,” while another named Shawn said, “fans can only dream, but thanks for clearing up the rumours.”

Others on Twitter also commented on how Englund is irreplaceable and that no other actor can portray Freddy Krueger better than him. A Twitter user named Mary told the actor that he “will always be the only one Freddy” and without him any remake of the classic horror film will not be a “true nightmare.” Another fan named Mike Wilkinson wrote that nobody did Freddy great like Englund did while Danny Jarrett said that Englund is “the best.”

An interview with Bloody Disgusting may have led to the false assumption Englund will return as Freddy Krueger in a remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” When asked what he thought of Line Cinema’s plan to do a remake of the classic horror film, Englund had instead suggested on doing a Freddy Krueger standalone film.

“You don’t do remakes! I would do ‘Freddy 9’, you know? Or I would do ‘Freddy vs Michael Myers.’ Or I would do a prequel,” he said.

Despite that he’s not returning to portray Freddy Krueger, Englund told Bloody Disgusting it would be interesting to see a black actor portray the character. He even suggested a title in case this happens, calling it “Nightmare in the Hood.”
