Season 1 of “Riverdale” has just ended a thrilling run when its season finale aired May 11. In the penultimate episode, Jason Blossom’s (Trevor Stines) killer was unmasked in a shocking manner in the aftermath of his father’s suicide. With no witnesses and not that many clues to work with, the whole town will be left scrambling to find out why he murdered his own son. While a lot of viewers thought that the finale was already entertainingly gritty and mysterious, spoilers guarantee that the second season will be even darker and packed with more drama.

Spoiler alert! This article possibly contains “Riverdale” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the next season airs.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions to deal with in the second season. This includes how Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) will come to terms with her father’s death and the fact that it was him who killed her beloved brother. Fans are also raving to know what is going to happen to FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) who is serving a long prison sentence. There are also questions if there will be any consequences to Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) and Jason’s apparently incestuous relationship.

Discussions on the content of season 2 are in the works, says Bustle, but there hasn’t been any specific detail revealed as of this writing. While it is still quite early, surprisingly, the cast and crew have been open about what fans should expect on the show’s second season. There are plenty of big changes, ranging from new cast members to a new direction on the storyline.

This means that the cliffhanger where Archie Andrews’ (KJ Apa) father Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) got shot in what seems to be a robbery at Pop’s will eventually gain clarity. This plot line is what executive producer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa is most excited about to explore when the show returns. Aguirre Sacasa says that fans should expect that this intense cliffhanger has something to do with Archie and his journey toward the upcoming season.

The producer also said that he is most excited to work into Archie’s psychology. “Gone will be the days of the kid who was most scared about performing in a variety show,” he said. Fans should expect a new and more grown-up Archie who will be exploring the darker waters around him head on. One thing that’s notable in the shooting of Fred is an Easter Egg from the comics version with the title “Death of Archie.” On print, it was Archie who got shot at Pop’s and Jughead was the one clinging on to him with friends surrounding. But this is the TV version, so anything can happen. The producer also assured that Luke Perry will still be around on season 2.

Also, it seems that Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) will be entering an entirely new world after the Southside Serpents gave him a jacket as some sort of welcome to the group. If the finale is to be judged, this will not sit well with his girlfriend Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) who, by the way, still has her split personality issue unexplored.

As of this writing, there has been no news or confirmation about the show’s return date, although production is slated to begin in June. “Riverdale” airs on the The CW Network in the US. It also airs on Netflix US and Netflix Australia.
