"The Revenant" star Leonardo DiCaprio recently revealed that he turned down the role of Anakin Skywalker in two of the three "Star Wars" prequel movies. He would have been in 2002's "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and 2005's "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." The actor and environmentalist also reportedly turned down other offers to play superhero roles like Robin and Spider-Man.

In an interview with ShortList, the 41-year-old actor admitted that he was approached for the roles of Robin in 1995’s "Batman Forever," Peter Parker in 2002’s "Spider-Man" and Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader in "Star Wars" "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith." DiCaprio revealed that he had meetings with Joel Schumacher and George Lucas but nothing happened after that.

"I just didn't feel ready to take that dive. At that point," DiCaprio told ShortList.

However, DiCaprio isn’t closing his doors to the possibility of playing a superhero.

"You never know. You never know. They're getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies. I haven't yet. But no, I don't rule out anything," DiCaprio said.

According to Los Angeles Times, his father, George DiCaprio, was an underground comics artist and distributor. That’s why it would be interesting to see the younger DiCaprio portray a comic book hero, or even a villain, in the future.

The actor also revealed how emotional he gets when watching movies he previously starred in, such as 1993’s "What’s Eating Gilbert Grape" and "This Boy’s Life." He feels extremely lucky to have gotten that break in Hollywood back then. DiCaprio is grateful to have worked with Robert De Niro and "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp when he was just starting out.

Ultimately, the role of "Anakin Skywalker" went to then-newcomer Hayden Christensen. As for Robin, it went to "NCIS Los Angeles" star Chris O'Donnell. Of course, everyone knows DiCaprio’s friend Tobey Maguire went on to become "Spider-Man."

Despite turning down high profile roles after "Titanic," DiCaprio’s star still continued to rise in Hollywood with critically acclaimed films including "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator," "The Departed," "Inception" and "The Wolf of Wall Street," to name a few. His latest movie "The Revenant," will be released in Australian theatres on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016. He plays the role of frontiersman Hugh Glass in the Alejandro González Iñárritu-directed film. It also stars Tom Hardy as John Fitzgerald, Lukas Haas as Jones, Will Poulter as Bridger and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star Domhnall Gleeson as Captain Andrew Henry.
