Home Depot will have a hiring spree in the coming days in anticipation of the looming busy spring season sales. In Canada, the retailer plans to take in over 5,500 workers. The 17,600 workers about to lose their jobs with Target Canada could probably be among the applicants.

Home Depot said it will conduct 370 job events across the country, looking for staff to place in all its 181 Canadian locations. In the United States, over 80,000 seasonal workers are planned to be hired.

The company, however, didn’t commit that workers hired during the season will be extended. Still, chances are possible that half of the spring seasonal workers might stay on with the company, Tim Crow, executive vice-president of human resources for Canada, told AP. "It gives us the ability to get a whole new wave of folks to join our team," Crow said.

Farhan-Syed Ahmad, store manager, East Markham, shared in a statement how he started at Home Depot Canada. "In my early days as a part-time associate, I was mentored by many inspirational leaders who created learning opportunities for me to stretch my skills and grow my expertise. Now as store manager, I take the same approach – encouraging entrepreneurial thinking, facilitating learning opportunities and celebrating every associate's success."

Home Depot regards the spring season as its busiest because the company noticed this is when shoppers splurge to purchase items to spruce up their lawns and work on their homes. The people, Home Depot said, it is looking for will be placed in positions ranging from cashier to online order fulfilment.
