Rafael Nadal and compatriot Fernando Verdasco were given wildcards in the men’s doubles event at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, which kicks off Aug. 7.

Nadal has teamed up with Verdasco in men’s doubles of the bet-at-home Open in Hamburg. However, the duo crashed out of the event after falling to Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini in straight sets 6-4 6-2. This time, Nadal will be looking to win his 10 th Association of Tennis Professionals doubles title at the hard court tournament in Montreal.

Rogers Cup Tournament Director Eugene Lapierre was delighted to have a strong lineup of players for the doubles event, which features eight of the top 10 doubles player in the world. The doubles draw includes the top-ranked doubles player Bob and Mike Bryan, who are four-time Rogers Cup doubles champions. It also features two-time defending champions Austrian Alexander Peya and Brazilian Bruno Soares, World No. 3 Andy Murray and Leander Paes, and Canadian Daniel Nestor and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

“We are happy to have such a strong list this year with a good mix of doubles specialists who always put on a show, and several top singles players who have some doubles prowess,” Lapierre said, reported Couperogers.com.

Nadal, a three-time champion in Montreal, will also take part in the men’s singles draw. The Spaniard tennis star is seeded seventh.

Joining him are some of the top-ranked players in men’s tennis including World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, reigning French Open champion Stan Wawrinka, 2014 US Open runner-up Kei Nishikori, Czech player Tomas Berdych, Marin Cilic, and Canada’s own Milos Raonic.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will also participate in the event in the Frenchman’s bid to defend his Rogers Cup title. Two-time Rogers Cup champion Roger Federer opted to skip the tournament to prepare for the hard court grand slam tournament US Open in his bid to win his 18 th grand slam trophy.
