Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is staging in Sydney but the focus is on the Brisbane-native designer that managed to turn heads and stole the show with her designs.

Gail Sorronda is a budding designer from Queensland who became the highlight of the opening day of the MBFWA. Her designs are usually described as bold and avant garde. Moreover, instead of doing the conventional runway walk, Sorronda made her models stood up on blocks like mannequins and model the clothes that give an intimate view of the collection.

Sorronda used bright colors with bold shapes like circles and stripes. Elements of quirkiness, comfort and unique character are predominant in most of her designs.

From bright colors, Sorronda also offered black and white designs, which gives off the sense of strength and elegance. Modern cuts and designs such as floor length trousers, baby doll style tops and dresses, peplum tops and fitted dresses dominate the black and white collection.

Since she began her career as a designer seven years ago. Her collections have been solely rendered in black and white. But for summer 2012 and for the fashion week, her work contains primary bright colors like yellow, green and red. Dramatic, sexy, and a whole lot of fun are the characters of designs.

Moreover, models also added a certain degree of performance art to the show with Pierot style black lipstick, as well as interesting beaded headgear with multicolored beads to match the dots theme.
