“It is an awkward situation when you have to do scenes like that. I won’t lie,” said Priyanka Chopra, who plays Alex Parrish, the protagonist in ABC thriller “Quantico.” The actress was shown to have sex in a car with one of her on-screen colleagues in the opening scene of the drama. But, the Bollywood beauty said that the scene was relevant to her character.

Chopra said that the scene was essential to introduce Alex as someone who does not care about love and has a single-minded focus on her job. The 33-year-old actress told New York Times that Indian films are very progressive in the way they are shot now. Also, she said that Alex is “unapologetic," "very flawed" and "bold.”

According to the actress, the toughest part for her was to master American accent. She recounted how it took her a couple of months to roll her Rs and even say “counter terrorism” to portray an independent American woman. Chopra credits her dialect coach and her team for it.

The actress said that she does not like to be called an “actor of colour,” rather she is someone who believes in a colour-blind world. She added that Alex’s character was not written for an Indian girl. But, Chopra was all praise for the network as ABC and the producers gave her an opportunity to “conform as an Indian actress to play an ethnically ambiguous part.”

Chopra opted for the theme of terrorism drama for her first American show as she felt it to be relevant and entertaining. “Quantico” is breaking the stereotypes when it comes to terrorism and the political distrust that people have of law enforcement. The show addresses issues in an entertaining way for pop culture, making it relevant and a hit with the audience.

Spoiler Alert:

In Episode 3 of “Quantico” titled “Cover,” Liam O’Connor (Josh Hopkins) is trying to locate Alex along with his team. The assistant director of the Quantico base is convinced that she is a terrorist and responsible for the bomb attack.

Liam seeks help from Alex's mother, Sita (Anna Khaja) in letting Alex turn herself in, TV Guide reported. He asks Sita to participate in a televised press conference to ask her daughter to come clean. Sita plays an important role in the FBI’s hunt for Alex.

A promo video for “Cover” shows the FBI surrounding a building apartment. Alex is seen talking to Simon Asher (Tate Ellington), who gives her a very imporatant information. Asher tells her that she has been framed not just a month ago but since the day she entered the academy.

“Quantico” airs at 10 p.m. Sunday on ABC in the U.S.
