The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset packed with eight cores is expected to be housed in many smartphones pegged for 2015 release. However, Samsung has opted out of the Snapdragon 810 chipset for its 2015 flagship, the Galaxy S6. Instead, the upcoming device will reportedly be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 chip. In order to determine the fastest chip among the two, here is a lowdown of the benchmark scores between the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and the Samsung Exynos 7420 chips.

The chipmaker Qualcomm was reportedly in deep trouble because of the overheating problems pertaining to the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chip. But very recently, GForGames confirmed that the said problem has been resolved. Meanwhile, Samsung has reportedly dropped the Qualcomm chip for the Exynos counterpart for its S6. And it is worth noting that, this Exynos 7420 chip uses the cutting-edge 14 nm build and it is touted to be a fierce competitor to the Qualcomm chipset, notes Phone Arena. Based on the preliminary benchmark scores, the Exynos 7420 chip complemented by global LTE support has reportedly trumped all other chipsets, with the only exception of Intel’s chip.

Phone Arena has compared the first set of AnTuTu benchmark test scores of both Qualcomm and Samsung processors to see if Exynos could trump the Qualcomm powerhouse. Apparently, both the processors run on smartphones with 2K resolution support. The tested Qualcomm-based device is reportedly a Mobile Development Platform smartphone, whereas the Exynos-based one is assumed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

According to the results, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor trumps the Samsung Exynos 7420 fair and square in the total score. To be specific, the Qualcomm processor has reportedly scored 61,499 points, while the Samsung counterpart could amass only 60,978 points. Plus, the Qualcomm one is reportedly better when it comes to Multitasking, CPU Integer, CPU floating-point, RAM Speed and 2D performance results. On the other hand, the Exynos 7420 and Snapdragon 810 have reportedly scored 20,725 points and 17,836 points respectively in 3D performance. Therefore, Phone Arena opines that, perhaps Exynos could prove to be the best processor for gaming, even with a relatively weaker CPU.

In any case, Samsung’s new processor is very close to trumping the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones could turn out to be monstrous devices. As Phone Arena puts it, “This is the first time a major semiconductor maker races on the same track as Qualcomm, and keeps up comfortably.” With Samsung and MediaTek chasing the device market relentlessly, is Qualcomm’s monopoly in danger? Feel free to leave a comment.
