Qantas and American Airlines launched new services at the Sydney Airport on Friday, will not only have increased passenger capacities but also present more choices to travellers during Christmas time.

The six weekly Sydney-San Francisco service on a 364-seat B747-400ER aircraft was launched by Qantas Friday at the Sydney Airport, while the American Airlines will be introducing its daily Los Angeles-Sydney service on a 310-seat B777-300ER aircraft at the airport Saturday.

“The expanded Qantas and American Airlines partnership will provide more choice and convenience for passengers travelling between Sydney and the United States,” Sydney Airport Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kerrie Mather said in a statement. “We’re pleased that Qantas is returning to San Francisco and we’re also excited to officially welcome the world’s largest airline, American Airlines, to Sydney tomorrow with their inaugural flight from Los Angeles.”

She added that the US is Sydney’s most popular outbound destination and travellers will be provided access to the airlines’ enhanced network with these new services during Christmas time. The expanded partnership will also include 225,000 seats a year between Sydney and US.

Mather along with Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce and American Airlines Senior Vice President International and Cargo Art Torno launched the expanded partnership at the Sydney Airport

The move has been supported by Destination NSW and Tourism Australia that said it will continue to work towards encouraging more people from the US to visit Australia.

According to Trade, Tourism and Major Events Minister Stuart Ayres, NSW, for a period of one year ending September 2015, received 341,500 visitors from the United States who spent around $581 million during their stay.
