Puppy Safely Rescued From a 50-feet Deep Well In California

The Californian puppy rescued by the Fresno Fire Department firefighters from a deep metal pipe is reportedly doing well. The puppy fell into a 50 foot deep old well casing in a garage.

According to Fresno Fire Department's representative, Pete Martinez, the puppy fell into a metal pipe with eight inches diameter in a garage on the 5000 block of East Grant Avenue. Timmy, the dog's name, is only a few months old and appears to be a shepherd mix.

Mark Garcia, the firefighter, reportedly spent around an hour to rescue the puppy from the well. According to Martinez, Garcia knotted a rope and lowered it down into the hole. The puppy slipped at first, dropping itself back at the bottom of the metal pipe. However, in the next attempt, Garcia successfully managed to put the loop around the puppy's torso and legs and pulled it above.

"It was frustrating. It seems like a simple operation, but you're looking down into this long deep hole and working with an object that is not cooperating. It came down to the firefighter doing a good job of just being persistent and trying multiple times," said Martinez, reported the NY Daily News.

The fire department reports that the puppy was stuck in the hole for a few hours but its cry was first heard by its owner's family. The hole has been covered ever since the puppy was rescued from the abandoned well.

The firefighters believe that the incident has been an accident. According to the Huffington Post, the puppy was unharmed when it got rescued.
