Japan's Sony Corp is hammering out plans to rise from the ashes of nearly $10 billion lost in six years by building a future around its last consumer electronics blockbuster - the PlayStation. Sony plans to reposition the video console warhorse as a hub for a network of streamed services, according to three senior officials, offering social media, movies and music as well as games. At long last, the much-awaited and much-teased PS4 2.0 Firmware Update is already coming, and Sony has been kind enough to provide another overview video to showcase its upcoming features. For those who may be hearing it for the first time, the PS4 2.0 Firmware Update will bring in the intriguing Share Play feature, which will provide you with a "virtual couch" to share your games with friends.

But apart from that, the Masamune update will bring features that have been requested by the community. Among these include the YouTube integration, USB music player, player finder, sorting options for the library and colourful themes for home screens.

"This is the biggest update we've delivered to date for PS4," Scott McCarthy, director for product planning & software innovation at the SCEA, said over at the PlayStation Blog.

As a quick rundown of what to expect with the PS4 2.0 Firmware Update, this includes, first and foremost, the Share play, where you can invite a friend to watch, take over, or co-op play with you depending on your PS Plus membership. It also features direct YouTube uploading via the SHARE button as well as the introduction of a YouTube app for the PS4.

For themes and colours, you can now personalize the home screen to suit the colour you want. There will even be two themes coming to the PS4, the "Destiny" and "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare," which can be obtained at launch of the PS4 2.0 Firmware Update. In fact, DualShockers already features some samples of the changed home screen colours. In the link, you can see the pink and yellow dashboard colours.

There will also be enhancements in live broadcasting to include search filters and archived broadcast support, while updates to the content area and library will let players find and access content more quickly.

As an added bonus, a request feature, the USB music player, will now be made available. Now you can just plug a USB and play music via the PS4 in the background.

The PS4 2.0 Firmware Update will also have some enhancements for the PS App, so be sure to update that as well. Get ready for a redesigned home screen and a new layout for those using tablets.

This may not be all of the features, however, as Gamepur reports the possibility of unannounced features that may surprise PS4 owners. The report cites insider Tidux, who has hinted on some more features that are not part of the overview released by Sony. According to the leak, there may be three more surprise features: Pause Download, the Change Privacy Status While In a Party and the Change Online Status.

The interesting fact here is that, in the latest trailer released by Sony and seen below, the Pause & Resume Download has already been confirmed. This could mean that the other two mentioned features may actually be in the PS4 2.0 firmware update.
