Publisher Activision made a big announcement recently regarding one of the central game mode’s in “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.” Activision confirmed that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One versions of the next title in the series will focus more on competitive multiplayer. It added that the game will not have a co-op campaign.

The reason for the removal of the c0-op campaign is that it’s too ambitious, said Activision. Basically, the previous consoles won’t be able to handle the expansive 2 to 4 players campaign found on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

"The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player [co-op] Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware. Delivering the best possible gameplay experience on all platforms is always our highest priority," said Activision.

The console versions are being developed by two different companies. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are under Beenox and Mercenary Technology. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions on the other hand are being developed by Treyarch. “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” was first announced last June at E3. On its unveiling, Activision noted that the co-op campaign would be available on all platforms, but it will be limited to two players on last gen consoles, Polygon reports.

Aside from the removal of the co-op campaign, the last gen versions will still get the same new features coming to the multiplayer mode of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.” The new features include a new movement system, and a total of nine different Specialist classes to use. It will also have the Zombies adventure, "Shadows of Evil."

There are other features restricted to current gen versions along with the PC. These include the Weapon Paint Shop and eSports tools.
