Thousands of mystics, hippies and tourists celebrated in the sunshine of southeastern Mexico on Friday as the Earth survived a day billed by doomsday theorists as the end of the world and a new era began for the Maya people. New Age dreamers, alternative lifestyle gurus and curious onlookers from around the world descended on the ruins of Maya cities to mark the close of the 13th bak'tun - a period of around 400 years - and many hoped it would lead to a better era for humanity. The Earth and its current civilisations have reached the highly anticipated end of times, according to Dr David Jeremiah, a bestselling and noted author as well as Bible teacher. The trigger of Earth's last days? When Israel became a nation way back 1948. In his interview with the Christian Post, he also shed light why the mighty America or United States wasn't mentioned even once in the Bible.

When Israel, which has been a state for 2,000 years, became its own nation 66 years ago, "the whole scope of world history" altered. Jeremiah noted that right after that fateful global historical milestone, many of the prophecies mentioned in the Bible, particularly "in the New Testament," happened. Without specifically mentioning any, he added those prophecies had already occurred, and "could not be fulfilled until Israel was at home in her nation."

"Now that she is there, you begin to see some of these other things starting to happen. The coalition governments of Europe, many of the things the Bible talks about and Israel in her land, so I think I would say yes, we are in the End Times," the Shadow Mountain Community Church senior pastor and 73-year old "noted prophecy expert," said. Asked when exactly, Jeremiah quoted the Bible which said "If these things are happening, lift up your head, because your redemption is drawing nigh."

The interview with Christian Post likewise delved into the U.S., and just what its exact role will be in this end of times scenario. Jeremiah flatly and frankly replied that the Bible "doesn't say anything at all about America in prophecy." Maybe because the U.S. didn't exist then, that the Bible only speaks of nations that were either known and near Israel at the time.

However, Jeremiah uttered a rather chilling and disturbing statement. He said at the rates things are going for the U.S. and how its runs its people and government, it will become "bankrupt" and ultimately become "subservient to China and other nations."

"If we don't figure out our financial situation, we could be rendered inoperative, totally, because of financial collapse. I know that sounds pretty bizarre to most people but if you look at where we are with our debt and what's happened to other nations who've been down the road we're going, it could very well be that by the time all of the end-time things happen, America will just be an also-ran nation and not important at all."
