That signature style paid off for Crown Princess Letizia of Spain. Vanity Fair put the Princess of Asturias on the International Best Dressed list, citing the ice blue Felipe Varela gown at King Willem-Alexander's inauguration as a "notable ensemble."

For fans of Princess Letizia's style, this came as no surprise. The Princess is a patron of Spanish labels, and Felipe Varela is her fashion OTP. In April 2013, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain joined other royals in the Netherlands at the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. Princess Letizia's subtle, elegant style was embodied by her ice blue Felipe Varela lace gown. The cool colour matched her Maria Nieto hat and Magrit heels.

Delicate lace is a staple of Felipe Varela gowns. The Princess has worn lace dresses in green, black, red and other hues. She cut a dramatic figure at the State Dinner for Queen Beatrix's abdication. Once again, the Princess covered up in a long-sleeved gown. This time, her Felipe Varela outfit came in black silk adorned with lace and beautiful beaded appliques.

Princess Letizia has been recycling outfits before Kate Middleton became a Duchess. A cap-sleeved Felipe Varela creation in blush did double duty. The Princess wore the lovely applique gown last June as she welcomed Crown Prince Naruhito at a dinner gala and, in 2010, at the wedding of Princess Victoria of Sweden.

When she felt like stepping out of her neutral-coluored style box, Princess Letizia wears red. Felipe Varela did right by the Princess in this bold design. Not only did the guipure lace gown stand out, its full, ruffled skirt was something different for the Princess of Asturias.

As rare as a full skirt was on the Princess, it was just the thing to make this gown one of the best for Princess Letizia. Vanity Fair was on the right track and the evidence lies in this gorgeous Princess-worthy dress Letizia wore at a pre-wedding dinner for Kate Middleton and Prince William. The strapless Varela gown came in subdued, grey lace, which tempered its exuberant, full silhouette.
