Princess Charlene of Monaco is a royal with a signature style. Her Serene Highness likes a good, streamlined handbag - much like her wardrobe.

The former Olympic swimmer has a short list of designer labels that she favors. Of that short list, Swiss fashion house Akris is right at the top. While Princess Charlene's Akris clothes range from classic chic to sleek and sensual, the Akris handbags the royal likes to carry are very minimalist. She has been spotted with a tan "Alexa" bag. The structured, angular piece, that Akris describes as its "first business specific handbag," strikes a balance between style and function. Princess Charlene carried the "Alexa" handbag during much of the ATP Masters Series in Monte Carlo, in April. The top handle bag was a good match with the navy blazers and white cropped pants she wore during the sporting event.

Another structured piece on Princess Charlene's handbag collection is her Giorgio Armani weekend bag. Like the "Alexa," the Monegasque royal's medium-sized Armani bag has a strong, business-like look. The slate grey hue looks almost blue and fits right in with Her Serene Highness' mostly neutral wardrobe. Princess Charlene made sure to display this handbag when she took her front row seat at the Giorgio Armani fashion show during Milan Fashion Week in February.

Princess Charlene's style is a tad more adventurous when it comes to clutches. Another favorite label, Christian Dior, has prime space in Princess Charlene's handbag closet. At evening functions, the Princess normally matches her clutch to her dress, with the exception of some beautiful metallic numbers, one of them being a gold Dior minaudiere. In May, Princess Charlene staged a Christian Dior Cruise Collection presentation in Monaco. She broke out of her comfort zone in a colour-block Dior lace dress with a clutch printed with an Andy Warhol shoe. Princess Charlene also likes to carry her quilted 'Lady Dior" bag around, most recently at a Christian Dior Haute Couture presentation in January.
