Prince William recently paid tribute to his late mother during his speech at the Child Bereavement UK on Oct. 15 at the Whitehall Palace. The Duke of Cambridge talked about grief where he empathised with those suffering from the loss of a loved one, considering the death of his own mother Princess Diana more than a decade ago.

Prince William, a patron of Child Bereavement UK, spoke candidly about his mother Princess Diana during the charity’s 21st anniversary. In a video shared by The Telegraph, the Duke of Cambridge also talked about his personal grief at the loss of the late princess when he was only 15-years old.

“What my mother recognised back then, and what I understand now, is that grief is the most painful eovxperience that any child or parent can endure,” Prince William addressed the guests at the charity dinner.

“My mother was determined to help those in need and she would have been immensely proud – as I am – of all that Child Bereavement UK has achieved these last 21 years. As a father to two young children, I now appreciate it all the more,” the Duke of Cambridge continued, adding that he was “honoured” to be chosen as patron of Child Bereavement UK, which has been “very dear” to him.

Prince William also praised the charity volunteers and workers for their support for those families suffering from grief, and for having an “enormous, positive difference” on them. He said that he has personally seen the help these workers have provided for those "wrecked families of suicide victims, with little children whose lives are torn apart by the inexplicable death of a parent." The Duke of Cambridge also acknowledged that the charity’s work has become more important to him since he now has children of his own, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also paid tribute to Princess Diana through the christening of their daughter, Princess Charlotte. They chose St. Mary Magdalene Church for the blessing since it’s where Princess Diana was christened. The royal couple also chose Diana as their daughter’s third name to remind them of the late princess.
