The Duke of Cambridge apparently has a hidden skill when it comes to playing musical instruments. Prince William reportedly recently revealed to a reggae artist his penchant for playing the bass guitar.

Prince William revealed his hidden skill with the bass guitar to reggae artist and Aswad frontman Brinsley Forde, whom the Duke awarded with the MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) on Tuesday, May 19. According to People, the Duke of Cambridge told Forde after the awarding, which was held in the Waterloo Chamber of Windsor Castle.

"He said he's handy on the bass," Brinsley Forde told the publication. “So you never know – we may have him playing bass soon,” he added.

However, how good the Duke of Cambridge is in playing the instrument remains unclear. Although according to ITV News, the royal’s skill is apparently enough to convince the reggae star Forde to consider signing him up. But Forde thought it may only get in the way of his royal duties. “He's got such a lot of other duties I don't know whether he'll have time to do it,” Forde said.

When asked whether the 32-year old royal enjoys playing the bass guitar to reggae music, Forde replied he didn’t know. However, added “Watch this space! We might have him out there."

It’s been known that Prince William is a fan of rap and R&B. However, this would reportedly be the first time the Duke of Cambridge has spoken of his musical talent. Having an interest in playing a musical instrument definitely runs in the family. According to ITV News, Prince William’s father, Prince Charles, is also a fan of the cello.

After the awarding the two fathers also shared baby talks, wherein Forde congratulated the Duke of Cambridge on the birth of his and Kate Middleton’s daughter, Princes Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. During their conversation Prince William gave an update on the baby princess, telling Forde that “she’s fine, she’s good.”

Other awardees and attendees were reportedly surprised to see Prince William at the event considering he is still on paternity leave. But they also expressed their gratitude at having the Duke of Cambridge present the awards to them.
