Prince Philip who is also known as the Duke of Edinburgh was not present during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert because he was rushed to the hospital due to an infection. Despite this mishap, celebrations were still in progress and royal members assured the public that Prince Philip was already on the way to recovery.

Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited his father at the Kind Edward VII Hospital in London. When asked about his father's condition, Prince Edward replied that he is "already on the mend" and further described this father's condition stating "He's getting better, he just needs some rest." Eventhough Prince Philip was absent during the celebrations, he was still aware of the event as he is monitoring it through television. In regards to the Queen's reaction regarding his husband's hospitalization, Prince Edward replied saying "She's bearing up but missing him, obviously." Prince Edward then thanked the media and proceeded on his way.

Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital due to a bladder infection which made him miss the concert held for the Queen's 60 years in the royal throne. The bladder infection was allegedly from standing on a boat for 4 hours despite the chilly weather during a royal ceremony. This is not the first time that Prince Philip had health troubles as he underwent a heart operation a few months ago. During the concert, Prince Charles encouraged the crowd to give support to his father's recovery through asking them to chant loudly so that his father could hear the chant. The crowd agreed joyfully as they loudly chanted "Philip" several times in order to give support.

Prince Philip is considered as the longest-serving royal consort in British history. He married Queen Elizabeth last November 20, 1947. Upon the day of his marriage, he was made Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich of Greenwich in the County of London.
