Just a few days ahead of the mid-season 6 premiere of the hit television series “Pretty Little Liars,” the show’s stars revealed interesting details about the upcoming new Season.

“Pretty Little Liars” stars Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchel, Sasha Pieterse and Lucy Hale sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET), where they talked about the show’s five year jump and how the characters have changed in that period.

Bellisario, who plays the character Spencer Hastings in the series, shared that “a lot of stuff” happened during the five year gap and that the characters are hiding “new secrets” from each other.

The show’s five year jump also means that the main characters in “Pretty Little Liars” have all turned 21 years old, which allowed the show’s writers to inject more mature discussions and situations. This was mentioned by Benson, who portrays Hanna Marin, during the same interview.

"It's nice to have mature conversations out of a high school setting,” Benson said. "It's so funny because the writers have us drinking in almost every scene to show that we're age-appropriate … I think all of us have had a really good time and it's fun to develop a new sense of the character."

Mitchel, who portrays Emily Fields in the series, also described the characters in “Pretty Little Liars” Season 6B as a “little bit more mature” and “a little bit more wiser” than in previous Seasons. Pieterse, who plays the character Alison DiLaurentis, also shared with ET that she found it “awesome” that viewers have grown up watching the show and she was witness to the challenges that beloved characters experienced throughout the years.

Meanwhile, Hale who portrays Aria Montgomery, also told ET that the friendship between the four girls in “Pretty Little Liars” would still be a focal point in the new Season. She also teased that “chaos” would continue in “Pretty Little Liars” Season 6B and that the show will feature something “fresh and new” for viewers.

Apart from having a more mature setting for the upcoming Season, the series’ creator Marlene King said in a recent interview with Variety that Mitchel’s character Emily will have the biggest secret in Season 6B. “She really has two secrets. One of the secrets informs the other. Over the course of the time jump, her father passes away unexpectedly and she will have a really difficult time dealing with that,” King stated.

The premiere episode of “Pretty Little Liars” Season 6B will air in the US on Jan. 12, Tue at 8 p.m. on Freeform, ABC Family’s new name.
