Police investigating the death of 12-year-old Tiahleigh Plamer have urged the public to come forward and help them find a pink backpack and a school uniform the girl was last seen wearing. State Emergency Service volunteers have joined hands with investigators to unearth the mystery behind the death of the girl whose body was found in the Pimpama River by fishermen on Thursday evening.

The decomposed body of the girl was identified by police on Friday, who suspected it could be a case of murder. According to the police, she was last spotted wearing a Marsden State High School uniform with a pink back pack, both of which were missing when her body was discovered. He carer last dropped her at the school in Logan at 8.10 a.m. on Oct. 30.

"We're asking members of the public who may have seen a backpack like this, under circumstances which may be suspicious, to contact the police," Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said on Saturday.

Homicide detectives are continuing with their investigations at an incident room which has been created within the Logan Police Complex. According to Hutchinson, the death of the girl occurred about a week ago and that the police do not think the body came floating down the river but was left there.

"The body in the water [and state of decomposition] does cause us some difficulties,” the ABC quoted him as saying. "As we stand here today, we don't have a cause of death ... but we are treating it as a homicide."

The Police have also urged anyone having a GoPro footage on their vehicle to have travelled down Moko Road or Chambers Flat Road on Oct. 30, the day she went missing, to come forward and help.
