Members of the country's two most powerful gangs MS-13 and 18th Street gang (Mara 18) gathered at a park after imprisoned representatives of the gang visited a nearby high security jail to pledge fellow members of the gangs not to commit violent acts. The pledge is part of a truce between the two gangs which was signed in March 2012 in conjunction with the church, civic organizations and government officials in an effort to reduce violent crimes in the country, according to local media. The police had filed homicide charges against a 10-year-old Pennsylvania boy for killing a 90-year-old woman. The incident happened on Saturday when Tristen Kurilla visited his grandfather, Anthony Virbitsky, who looked after the victim, Helen Novak.

Tristen entered Novak's room at about 10 am to ask a question, but the old woman yelled at the boy and ordered him out of her room. Tristen followed her order but returned with a wooden cane that he used to hook around Novak's neck, reports the New York Post.

He then pushed the hook into the old woman's throat and punched her five times in the throat and stomach. He told his grandfather that Novak was bleeding from her mouth at around 10:30 am but said he didn't hurt Novak. Virbitsky described his ward as breathing heavily and looking scared.

By 11 am, she was unresponsive, which prompted Virbitsky to call 911. Martha Virbitsky, the boy's mother, brought Tristen hours later to the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Honesdale where he admitted to killing Novak whom he intended to hurt only.

Tristen, who was charged with murder as an adult, admitted to killing the old woman. He can petition to move the case to a juvenile court.

The autopsy on Monday done on Novak confirmed she died of blunt force trauma on her neck.

Tristen is held without bail at the Wayne County Correctional facility, but the district attorney's office said he is not mixed with adult offenders, is under supervision 24/7 by staff and has recreational facility as well as contact with his family through telephone.

Bernard Brown, the boy's lawyer, said that Tristen could have mental issues and may not be fit to stand trial, reports the Associated Press. Tristen's next court appearance is on Oct 22.
