Pokemon GO
"Pokemon GO" will conduct field tests in the U.S. The Pokemon Company

After considerable server downtime, Pokemon GO, is finally available for Canada for Android and iOS. The celebration, however, was unfortunately brought to an abrupt stop as servers go down once again. As of 8:10 a.m. AEST, some users are still experiencing downtime.

For anyone that has been playing Pokemon Go, this is nothing new as it has been the state of the servers for the past week. It is not surprising, though, knowing that millions of Pokemon trainers are cramming the servers with log in attempts as soon as servers go up.

Game developer Niantic has announced that they have identified and fixed the issues on the servers and will have it up once it has been deemed stable.

Popularity is a double edged sword for any new online game. The especially hyped up games usually end up with more than what they bargain for during the first months of release.

Server instability and overload are the usual problems that plague the developers and publishers. Unfortunately, a lot of online games lost their momentum because of these issues. Online multiplayer games with a hyped up backing tend to have the ficklest customers.

As server issues persist, players start feeling discouraged and stop attempting to play the game altogether. The developers are then put in a difficult situation in balancing the right number of new servers to meet the demand. The developers will end up with too many empty servers if the servers are added too late.

Luckily, Pokemon GO’s players are seemingly patient and loyal to the game., though it is safe to assume that the players are loyal because they are loyal to the Pokemon franchise itself. Pokemon GO also fits a special position as it has no direct competition and is a pure novelty. Players cannot simply move to a different game for the same experience.

With Canada finally joining in the hype, Pokemon Go’s playerbase increases as do server worries for everyone. Niantic assured the players that international rollouts will only proceed if the servers are stable. Asia's release date is next on Niantic's list.
