Who would have thought that the elusive fountain of youth that everyone searches can be found in an actual fountain? Apparently, plain old water can make you look up to 10 years younger. Say goodbye to expensive creams and plastic surgery to delay the signs of aging. Drinking lots of water may improve not just your looks but your overall health.

Drinking 8-10 glasses of water is recommended daily for optimum health benefits and hydration. But not everyone likes to drink tasteless water. Most people prefer drinks with taste and color. If they only knew how bad those drinks are for their skin and body, then they would probably not even think of drinking one.

Daily Mail Writer Sarah Smith experimented to find out for herself if these claims about water were true. She set out to drink 3 liters of water or 12 eight ounce glasses of water every day for 28 days. Smith wanted to see if there would be an improvement in her skin or health after taking this water challenge.

"After years of suffering headaches and poor digestion I spoke to a neurologist about my regular headaches and a nutritionist about my poor digestion, and both told me I should be drinking up to three liters of liquid a day for my body to function at its best," Smith wrote in her article in Daily Mail.

After 28 days, Smith noticed that her complexion was so much better. Not only that, her joint flexibility also improved and her ability to concentrate. Her breath smelled better. Her headaches were lessened. She also lost 2 pounds and half an inch around her waist. Take note, all she did was drink lots of water. Smith didn't even change her diet or exercise routine.

"I'm eating less because drinking water with meals makes me feel fuller quicker. I used to snack, but I was reaching for food when I was actually thirsty. Studies show 37 percent of people mistake thirst for hunger," Smith noted on her report.

Smith looks and feels so much better after her water therapy and she intends to keep on drinking 3 liters of water every day.

Even Hollywood Star Winona Ryder knows how important water is too stay beautiful and feel young and energized. According to Ryder's makeup artist and friend Kim Collea, her youthful good looks is the result of her healthy eating habits (mostly salads) and drinking tons of water.

"She is a very healthy eater, and I think that is a big part of it," Collea said to PEOPLE.

"It sounds boring, but the girl eats a lot of salads. You know those giant Big Gulps cups that most people fill with soda? She's got hers filled with water."
