Ahead of the release of “Pirates of the Caribbean 5,” the first comic from the franchise will be released. The comic will tell the stories of Jack Sparrow and reveal what happened in between the movies.

The first comic of the series will be released in August, Bleeding Cool reports. Chris Schweizer and Joe Flood have worked on the comic and it will be published by Joe Books. The plot of the comic is based on the events from the very first movie of the franchise. It is not clear how many comics will be released in this series.

According to the official synopsis, the comic begins from the time Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) had a duel with Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who was cursed for stealing Aztec gold. Jack is on the run again after the duel and is being chased by Admiral Norrington (Jack Davenport).

It has been over thirteen years since the first movie of the franchise was released and this is a first time that the characters will be appearing in a comic book of their own. As the series continues it may reveal the events just prior to “Pirates of the Caribbean 5.”

Other popular franchises like “Star Wars” have managed to sell a lot of merchandise just prior to the launch of a new movie. From novels, comics and games to smartphone apps; the franchise was able to capitalise on the popularity of franchise among fans. The strategy they adopted was to tell the stories that were in between movies and stop just short of the events of “The Force Awakens.”

The new comic of Jack Sparrow appears to be using the same strategy. “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will be introducing a new villain Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). Will the comics reveal the past relationship between Jack and Salazar and tease information about the Trident of Poseidon?
