The Stockholm District Court may decide the future of two of The Pirate Bay’s domains in the coming week. The prosecutor wants that two .SE domains of TPB be either put under the control of government or completely disabled.

According to TorrentFreak’s report, a court in Sweden will decide the future of The Pirate Bay’s two domains. The court’s order will determine if The Pirate Bay can control these two domains in question or not.

Prosecutor Fredrik Ingblad is the one who has been fighting against TPB. PirateBay.se, which is an alternative to the main domain, and ThePirateBay.se, the main domain are the two targeted domains.

Ingblad stated that The Pirate Bay has been declared an illegal website and the domain names are helping in the crimes committed by TPB. Hence, the domains must be handled by the court and action must be taken.

In 2013, a motion was filed against Punkt SE in the District Court of Stockholm. Punkt SE has the major .SE domains for Sweden.

Ingblad wants to check if the court can seize the domain like how weapons are seized. “That is, in practice, that the state should take over them, or at least that .SE should not get rent them out,” Ingblad said (via Bt.se).

The CEO of Punkt SE, Danny Aerts talked about the upcoming case and mentioned that it is a unique one to come up in Europe. “There are no previous cases of states suing a registry for abetting criminal activity or breaching copyright law,” Aerts said (via TorrentFreak).

There are different ways that copyright holders, entertainment companies and government agencies can block a website like The Pirate Bay. One of them is by forcing the hosting companies to stop the functions of the websites. However, it is not the best one. Taking away the domain of the rogue website is something that is new and might prove to be effective.
