Reeva Steenkamp was laid to rest on Tuesday. Her remains were cremated at an emotional ceremony in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The 29-year-old model was shot dead in Oscar Pistorius home in Pretoria, South Africa on Thursday last week. It was an emotional event for Reeva's family and close friends as they try to remember the slain victim by her good heart.

Reeva was cremated at the Victoria Park crematorium where her family held a private ceremony closed to the media. After an hour, Reeva's family and friends gathered outside to give each other warm hugs and condolences.

"There's a space missing inside all the people that she knew that can't be filled again. We're going to keep all the positive things that we remember and know about my sister. We will miss her," Adam Steenkamp said of her sister. "Everyone is sad, understandably. But at certain points we were smiling while remembering Reeva because we only have good memories of her. I think that was what we were all thinking."

Reeva's uncle Mike Steenkamp broke down in front of the cameras while detailing about the December family outing that the family planned together. He said that now, everyone in the family is together but one is missing.

"She was an angel, she was so soft, so innocent. Such a lovely person. It's just sad that this could happen to somebody so good," Gavin Venter who has worked for Steenkamp's father said in his grief.

Apart from the sadness that covered the place, there was also anger. Many believed that Oscar Pistorius should suffer the consequences of his actions and be sentenced to imprisonment. Oscar pleaded not guilty to the murder of Reeva when he appeared in court on Tuesday. However he did admit shooting through the bathroom door and claimed that he mistook his girlfriend for a burglar.

The untimely death of Steenkamp only highlighted South Africa's record on violence against women. On an average, one woman is raped every four minutes and one is killed every 8 hours by her partner or relative.
