Developer Atlus revealed a gameplay video featuring Persona 5’s first 18 minutes into the game. Persona 5 is shown to have kept and improved on the colourful comic style that the franchise is known for. Persona 5 is set to release in September 2016, while the English version is set to release on Feb. 14, 2017.

The gameplay video teased the ability to finally jump in the game world in a press-button-to-do-action mechanic. Possible allies were shown early on talking to the main character via ear comm.

The gameplay video hints a stealth mechanic introduced into the game, a mechanic unavailable in the previous games of the series. Persona 5’s interface took inspiration from hyper stylised comic book speech bubbles.

Persona 5’s main character was shown to be a criminal in the video, another difference from the previous titles. The gameplay and combat also returned to being in the real world whereas Persona 3 and 4 had majority of the fighting in an alternate dimension.

Persona 5 gameplay video also revealed that either shadows have successfully disguised themselves as humans or shadows have possessed humans. These shadows were shown guarding and operating a casino filled with normal people.

This came as a surprise to most players in the live stream, as only humans capable of using Personas could interact and fight against shadows. Persona 3 even featured that normal people are unable to perceive the shadows and the alternate dimension.

Persona 5 is a Japanese Role Playing Game (JRPG) of the Persona series. The Persona series is a spin off the another similar JRPG “Shin Megami Tensei If…”. Persona 5, and the entire series, revolves around a protagonist as he fights the enemies from an alternate dimension called shadows.

The protagonist and his allies have the ability to control powerful beings called Personas. Unlike his allies, the main character can control, create and combine multiple Personas.

The ability to create new and powerful Personas is the game’s central gameplay. Players can and are often required to dump hours into gameplay to achieve the most powerful Personas to beat the game.
