The Season 5 finale of “Person of Interest” (POI) will air soon. The recent teaser and images from the series finale presented that the group will be going on a suicide mission to ultimately stop Samaritan.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “Person of Interest” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

The episode, titled “return 0,” stated in its synopsis that the team should embark on one last suicide quest to stop Samaritan from destroying the Machine and putting it in control over the human race permanently.

TVLine notes that the images showcased the subway base of the team, the same place that was presented in the prologue of the premiere. It turns out that the Machine was actually the one narrating that the hideaway will end up destroyed in the aftermath.

Co-showrunner Jonah Nolan said that the supposed episode title, “Everyone dies alone,” said much about their mood at that time. However, co-showrunner Greg Plageman said that they thought it was too upbeat, which is why they changed it to “return 0.”

Amy Acker, who plays Root, in stating that the final episode will expectedly be exciting. Root and the Machine has developed a special kind of relationship throughout Season 5 and more of it will most likely be revealed soon.

Root’s death will greatly impact how the Machine will function in the last episode. Root sacrificed herself to save Finch (Michael Emerson) and previously urged him to make his creation more assertive in the war. Harold may finally decide to do it for Root.

Cinema Blend quotes Jim Caviezel, who plays Reese, in saying that the Season 5 finale will be epic and likened it to a combination of Episode 4 and 5 of “Star Wars.” Considering that the CBS show has been cancelled, he said that they will be exiting with a bang.

Comparing “Person of Interest” and “Star Wars” can actually be justified, since the TV series is produced by Bad Robot company by J.J. Abrams, the director of “Star Wars” Episode 7. Hopefully, fans of both the TV show and movie will determine the similarities in the final episode.

The series finale of “Person of Interest” will air on June 21 on CBS. It also airs on FX in Australia. More updates and details are expected soon.
