Showtime’s gothic horror TV series “Penny Dreadful” is getting its own mobile video game called “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde.” However, the game is nothing like the series that will take the players through the streets of London killing off monsters and chanting spells.

Midverse Studios is developing “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” as a card game. Midverse said it will be a collectible card game where players use their decks as weapons against their opponent. These cards will be based on characters or creatures from the series. The game also contains some mini-puzzle role playing games.

According to the Social Times, the game mechanics involve players choosing their own deck of cards to complete their team of character-based cards, Tarot cards and artifacts. “Penny Dreadful: 'Demimonde” will also let players compete against their opponents through tournaments and special events. Puzzles and quests from each episode of the show are also included in the game.

Rizwan Virk, CEO of Midverse Studios, shared what fans could expect to experience from “Demimonde.” He revealed that the game was inspired by the beautiful yet haunting supernatural creatures and storylines that series creator John Logan brought to life in “Penny Dreadful.”

“The real battles are happening in the demi-monde—a half-world between what we know and what we fear—and we look forward to bringing the unique creepy, intelligent style of Penny Dreadful to our mobile game,” he said in an official comment about the mobile game.

“We also expect that the mobile game will introduce the unique characters of Penny Dreadful to new players that may never have watched the show,” Rizwan added.

“Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” has no release date yet. But fans of the show who wish to relieve the macabre theme of the show, which just ended its second season on Sunday, can sign up for the game’s beta on Midverse Studios’ official Web site. According to Cinema Blend, the collectible card game will be released via the App Store and on Android devices through Google play. It will also be available on Amazon Kindle. The game will reportedly also be released at a later date on Facebook.
