Midverse Studios today has announced the release date on the beta version of its new game, “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde.” Developers revealed the news via newsletter sent to game subscribers.

According to the newsletter from Midverse Studios, the beta version of “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” will be available in August, 2015, with the global release scheduled in the fall. No specific date was announced. Developers also revealed upcoming perks with the game, including a chance to win an exclusive “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” poster.

“To show you our appreciation we will give away to one lucky beta user a ‘Penny Dreadful: Demimonde’ Comic-con exclusive poster, signed by Reeve Carney (Dorian Gray); we will announce terms and conditions once the beta is underway, stay tuned,” Midverse added on its newsletter.

Midverse Studios on its official Web site announced the game is created based on Showtime’s gothic horror series, “Penny Dreadful.” However, the game is unlike the hit show, where players get the chance to play hero and walk the streets of Victorian London killing off monsters and demons. There is no chanting of spells and witchcraft involve.

Instead, “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” is a Collectible Card Game or CCG combined with a bit of Puzzle role-playing or RPG. Puzzles and quests from each episode of the show will be incorporated in the game.

The game mechanics call for players to choose their own deck of cards, based on characters or creatures from the “Penny Dreadful” series, as their weapons against their opponent. Players pick their own cards to complete their team of character-based cards, Tarot cards and artifacts. According to Social Times, players will also have the chance to compete through tournaments and special events.

Rizwan Virk, co-founder and CEO of Midverse Studios, promises “Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” will not deviate too much from its TV inspiration. Virk assures the game will still contain that unique creepy factor found in the Showtime series.

“The real battles are happening in the demi-monde – a half-world between what we know and what we fear – and we look forward to bringing the unique creepy, intelligent style of Penny Dreadful to our mobile game,” Virk said via Midverse Studios’ official site.

“Penny Dreadful: Demimonde” will be available via the App Store and on Android devices through Google play. The game will also be released at a later date in Facebook and is also available on Amazon Kindle.
