This year’s PAX Australia is geared to give even more recognition to indie developers. Penny Arcade President Robert Khoo said that the PAX Aus received massive support from the indie community last year and that this was the stepping stone for PAX Rising. PAX Rising is a celebration of the rising indie game industry and will feature the creme of the crop in the Australian and New Zealand development scene. PAX Australia will be held from October 30 to November 1 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"Our dream is to roll the area out across all of our shows, with the ambition being what you'll see in Melbourne," Khoo said, as quoted by Develop-Online.

PAX has been known for its support for indie games through showcases and awards. This year, PAX Rising is taking it up a notch with over 70 developers under one roof, six of which are the winners of the PAX Aus Indie Showcase. The said showcase is an annual competition that gives recognition to the best developers in the Australian and New Zealand development scene.

This year’s winners are Team Cherry’s "Hollow Knight," Team Fractal Alligator’s "Hacknet," Craftven’s "Lupinball," Sun-studios’ "Armed With Wings: Rearmed," Yak & Co’s "Agent A: A Puzzle In Disguise" and SMG Studio’s "Death Squared." According to IGN, the winners will be given four exhibitor badges and a booth to showcase their titles. Submissions for the contest began in May this year and was officially closed on July 6.

PAX first started in 2004 when company Penny Arcade decided that it was time for a show exclusively for gaming. The first PAX was held in Bellevue, Washington and it has then continued to expand. In 2013, PAX made its first international event with PAX Australia, which is now an annual event.

Interested participants can book their tickets at PAX Australia’s official website. The convention will include concerts, exhibit halls, tournaments and panels. Gamers will also have the time to play with other attendees in handheld lounges, PC areas and different gaming consoles throughout the area.
