Parramatta Eels’ hooker Nathan Peats will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a broken neck. Peats suffered the injury early in the second period of the Eels’ 28-18 loss against the Sydney Roosters on Saturday at Allianz Stadium.

Peats played in the final 36 minutes of Saturday’s loss already in pain, with a fracture on his C6 vertebra. However, the 24-year-old hooker has paid the price of playing through his injury as he will miss the remainder of the NRL’s season with a broken neck, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

The Eels No. 9 will most likely undergo surgery and consult with specialists. According to News, the Eels said in a statement that further scans are needed to determine the best of course of treatment for Peats.

Last season, Peats also sat out the rest of the Parramatta’s NRL campaign after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament midway through last year. Peats signed a three-year deal with the Eels in June 2013 and played at the start of the 2014 season.

Peats will also join Anthony Watmough (knee), Brad Takairangi, Danny Wicks (shoulder), Kaysa Pritchard (pec), and Kenny Edwards (knee) in the Blue and Gold’s rehabilitation ward for the remainder of the Eels’ season. Beau Champion (knee), Junior Paulo (facial injury), David Gower (concussion), and Richie Fa’aoso (neck) are also among the long list of players that are questionable for Sunday’s game.

Captain Tim Mannah, who left the field during the team’s round 23 loss to the Roosters, will return for the match against the Manly Sea Eagles, while centre Will Hopoate is also expected to return from a hamstring strain. Second-rower Gower, who left the field during the team’s Saturday loss, was required to undergo a concussion test, but is also expected to return for Parramatta’s Sunday showdown with Sea Eagles.
