Paris is the best city to visit in 2014, according to Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2014 - Top 10 Cities list.

The City of Light or La Ville-Lumière in French is being seen in a new light with the spotlight once again focused on this beautiful and romantic city.

Paris is described by the world's largest travel guide book publisher as a place steeped in "urban renaissance."

It has always been considered by many people as the most beautiful city in the world. According to Lonely Planet, Paris has addressed congestion in the area by adding cycleways and walkways to its riverbanks, including the Seine's Right and Left Bank, to reduce pollution and traffic jams. It encourages people to walk or take a bike in visiting their chosen destinations, whether going to work or traveling around the city.

It highlights the Left Bank's 2.5 kilometers car-free zone between the Musée d'Orsay and the Pont de l'Alma. Also, floating gardens can now be found around the city on pedestrian promenades and artificial islands. These also help curb pollution and add beauty to the community.

Travelers are encouraged to visit the newly renovated Musée Picasso, the Louvre's new Islamic art galleries, which have a gold "flying carpet" roof and the Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, which has nine new bells that sound like original chimes from the medieval period.

The travelers' destinations are the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Moulin Rouge and Château de Versailles, which must not be missed while in Paris.

"The world's most beautiful city is now even more beautiful," Lonely Planet stressed.

Australian cities are slipping down the list. In 2013, the Hobart City located in Tasmania was ranked no. 7. In 2014, Adelaide was included and ranked no. 9. Still, it is a testament to the beauty of Australia. The Kimberley region was ranked no. 2 in the list of the Best Regions To Visit in 2014.

Australia's neighbor, New Zealand, also made Lonely Planet's list of the Top 10 Cities to Visit in 2014. The city of Auckland was ranked no. 10.
