Australia has ranked fifth from the list of 161 countries participating in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.

The Australian Paralympic Team has so far secured 51 medals—10 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze—since the Paralympic Games began Sep. 7 in Rio de Janeiro. Host country Brazil trails close with 47 medals—10 gold, 23 silver and 14 bronze. But Brazil overtakes Australia if the ranking is based on the gold medal tally.

As of Thursday’s Paralympic Medal Count, China continues to dominate the sporting event with a running total of 171 medals—75 gold, 58 silver and 38 bronze. The United Kingdom follows with 95 medals while Ukraine and the United States are tied with 80 medals. However, Ukraine leads with 30 gold medals versus the US’ 26.

At least 4,300 athletes with disabilities from 161 nations are competing in 528 events across 22 different sports. According to event organizers, at least 2,347 gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded throughout the sporting competition.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games opened with a grand ceremony at the world famous Macaraña Stadium last Sep. 7 and will conclude with a closing ceremony on Sep. 18.

Australia has sent a team of 177 athletes to represent the country in the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. In 2012, the country ranked fifth out of the 164 countries that competed at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Australia took home 32 gold, 23 silver and 30 bronze medals.

Earlier, Australia ranked 10th in the medal tally count for the recently concluded Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The Australian Olympic Team brought home 29 medals—eight gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze—from the 15-day Olympic Games event. (Read: Rio 2016 Olympics: Australia ranks 10th on medal tally)

South Korea is set to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang from March 9 to 18, 2018.
