The way things have been going for these two giant pandas, you would think they were human celebrities.

The pair, Sunshine and Sweetie, have arrived in Scotland on their way to Edinburgh Zoo after a journey from China on an expressly fitted private plane.

The two seven-year-old pandas reached their destination at Edinburgh Airport, Sunday on a FedEx-chartered Boeing 777. The two adorable creatures are being lent to the zoo by the Chinese government.

The female panda, Sweetie, was let off the plane in her transparent Perspex enclosure first; quickly followed by Sunshine. In China, the two are known as Tian Tian (the female) and Yang Guang (the male). The twosome then began the brief journey to Edinburgh Zoo. As soon as the couple arrives at the zoo, the pandas will be strictly be kept away from the public's curious gaze.

This will allow them ample time to settle into their new environment, Sky News has reported. The public will only be allowed to see the pandas starting Dec. 16 visits to the zoo.

Preceding their flight, the duo were given a hearty breakfast of carrots and protein cakes. After which, they were loaded into their crates, each labeled "one panda." An in-flight meal of bamboo was served as the two were on board. It is said that adult pandas eat about 4kg of this type of plant per day.

Dr Tang Chunxiang, a veterinarian from China's Giant Panda Research Base, was in charge of the precious cargo as they made their way over the globe.

The pandas' departure from China is the conclusion of several years of tireless campaigning by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the British government. The pandas are to stay in the UK for roughly a decade and will cost them a whopping £600,000 ($936,000) a year.
