Australian rapper and model Iggy Azalea, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, has been getting a lot of flak for winning the Billboard 2015 Music Award for Top Rap Song last May 17, 2015 for her song "Fancy." Some music fans took their protests even further by signing a petition at Change.org. Read on to learn more about it.

The chart-topping song "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring English singer and songwriter Charli XCX is from Iggy's 2014 album "The New Classic." It is the subject of the "Retract Iggy Azalea's Ineligible Award for "Fancy" petition from Change.org. It was started by Christian Ferguson from Mount Juliet, Tennessee.

As of this writing, there are already 22,577 supporters of the said petition. Ferguson also posted a letter to Billboard Music Awards. It states that Azalea's Billboard 2015 Music Award for Top Rap Song has been proven invalid because "Fancy" was released on Feb. 17, 2014. It points out that the eligibility period for the Billboard 2015 Awards nominations is from March 10, 2014 to March 2015.

"This is unfair to the other nominees in these category, especially to "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would've won. Billboard did not follow their own guidelines and should have to recalculate these nominations without "Fancy" as a nominee," Ferguson writes on Change.org.

However, a spokeswoman for Dick Clark Productions told International Business Times on May 19, 2015 that "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX was eligible for the Billboard 2015 Music Award for Top Rap Song.

The Billboard Music Awards eligibility period mentioned by Ferguson in his petition against "Fancy" is actually a "reporting period" of the chart performance and sales data of Azalea's song. It isn't based on the release date of "Fancy."

Despite the confirmation of "Fancy's" eligibility to win Billboard 2015's Top Rap Song, Ferguson still thanked those who have signed the petition to retract Azalea's award from Billboard. He also posted an update about it on Change.org.

Obviously a fan of Nicki Minaj, he still promoted some of her songs including “The Night Is Still Young” and “Hey Mama” in the hopes that those two songs will give Nicki the Top Rap Song award from Billboard in 2016.

Aside from the Billboard Music Awards 2015 Top Rap Song, Azalea also won the Top Streaming Artist and the Top Rap Artist awards. Click here to see the complete list of winners for the Billboard Music Awards 2015.
