Ford Motor Company of Canada has just made available over 1,000 new jobs for grabs at its Oakville Assembly plant in Ontario. It is here where the new global 2015 Ford Edge crossover utility vehicle will be built and exported to more than 100 countries worldwide.

The Oakville Assembly currently produces Ford's Lincoln MKX and MKT, as well as the Edge and Flex vehicles. The additional hires that will make the new 2015 Ford Edge will bring the company's total employment at the facility to over 4,000 by yearend.

An unidentified representative of the Canadian auto workers union told Bloomberg the pegged amount of new hires was the largest since the country's 2009 recession. Ford Motor Company of Canada has already added 300 jobs in 2013 to meet growing consumer demand.

Meant to "set a new standard in its class," the Oakville Assembly will enable the manufacture of the new 2015 Ford Edge "with best-in-class quality, fuel efficiency, smart design and value," the company said in a statement. This follows an announcement in 2013 where Ford Motor Company of Canada said it will allot C$700 million to convert Oakville into an "advanced global manufacturing facility."

In addition, Ford Motor Company of Canada will likewise boost spending by C$200 million a year on Canadian-made auto parts.

The 2015 Ford Edge is all new from wheels to roof and is loaded with more technology, higher levels of craftsmanship and greatly improved vehicle dynamics. Showcasing Ford's best technology, it has more driver-assist features and improved performance. It is also the first Ford model line with a standard EcoBoost engine.

Investment in auto manufacturing directly benefits the Canadian economy. According to data that Ford Motor Company of Canada gathered, every auto job generates up to 10 supporting jobs.

James Moore, Canadian Industry Minister, lauded the automaker's plans of new hires. "It demonstrates once again that Canada is a great place to build cars," he said in a statement.

He added that the federal investment in the Oakville Assembly plant has helped transform it into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and one of Ford's most advanced facilities globally.
