"Outlander" star Sam Heughan, who plays the handsome Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser on the show, is making waves in the industry. The first season of "Outlander" has premiered on Starz network a few weeks ago, and James has already become a fan favourite. Here are top 5 things to know about the star:

1.Sam Heughan was born and brought up in Scotland. He has Scottish roots just like his onscreen character. Sam is a natural blonde and he recently posted his new look on Twiiter.

2. Though Sam shares a blazing chemistry on screen with his co-star Caitriona Balfe, in real life he is reportedly single. Since the premiere of the season, Sam has been linked to Balfe on many occasions, but they have kept mum about the issue.

3. Not a lot of people know that before becoming a favourite in "Outlander," Sam auditioned for "Game of Thrones." "I auditioned for Game of Thrones seven times! Loads of times. I auditioned for Renly, Loras, some of the members of the Night's Watch. And I'd always get so close! I'd be like, 'Guys, just give me a sword!'" he told Vulture.

4. Sam has an adventurous bone and likes mountain hiking. He has many photos of himself on Twitter doing sports activities such as biking.

5. According to reports by Bustle.com, Sam Heughan's first celebrity crush was Jessica Rabbit. "I know this is a common answer," he revealed to Entertainment Weekly, "but Jessica Rabbit. I know she's animation, but oh my god."

Currently, Sam is busy shooting for "Outlander." In the show, he meets a married nurse, Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe who mysteriously went back in time. His character is protective of Claire, and the two have some passionate sex scenes together. Fraser meets Claire on his return from France.

In regard to playing Fraser, Sam has said in one of his interviews that he has done other projects involving sword fighting. As Fraser, he had to do learn martial arts to get into the skin of the character, according to reports by Zap 2 It.
