“Outlander” star Sam Heughan has raised just over $1 million (about AU$1.25 million) in the past three years. The money will go to chosen charities. The actor has released a new video thanking fans and participants for helping him reach this milestone.

Heughan is the founder of an initiative called My Peak Challenge, a global movement dedicated to helping people live a healthier, happier and a more balanced life. The money was raised through this initiative.

In a video released online (see below), Heughan wishes everyone a happy new year, welcoming them to another year of My Peak Challenge.

In 2017, participants of the initiative helped raise $595,406 (about AU$745,210). This makes the total money raised in the past three years amounting to $1,002,419 (about AU$1,254,627).

“So proud of everyone and all your achievements,” Heughan wrote. Now, the actor is looking forward to another exciting year.

Pre-registration to My Peak Challenge 2018 is open, Heughan announced. The actual program launches in February. This is a 12-month program during which participants will get access to support like nutrition plans and integrated training.

The My Peak Challenge is not just an initiative to reach fitness goals. The program can be used to achieve diverse objectives like making new friends or writing that first novel. The idea is to set a goal and start working towards it. There’s the added advantage of connecting with like-minded participants from across the globe.

Heughan is currently busy filming the next season of the popular time-travelling drama series “Outlander.” Each year, the actor takes time out of his busy schedule to share videos of things like him working out in the gym, sharing updates on the progress the My Peak Challenge, and inspiring his fans.
