On the anniversary of the Battle of Culloden, the first teaser trailer of “Outlander” season 3 was released online. After watching it a million times during this rather long Droughtlander, some of the fans may have noticed an interesting scene in which Jamie hugs someone, which may give a clue about an interesting storyline that is expected to develop this year. The following article contains spoilers.
The trailer begins with the familiar scene of Jamie (Sam Heughan) saying a tearful farewell to his wife just before the Battle of Culloden begins. Now, the story continues, with Claire back with Frank (Caitriona Balfe), believing that the love of her life died in the war.
While Claire misses her Jamie, the Scotsman is also in pain. He has lost his wife, and his friends are dead, if the TV series follows the book. The young warrior survives the war, but there is a huge hole in his heart, which is evident in the trailer.
In “Voyager,” the book written by Diana Gabaldon, on which the plot of “Outlander” season 3 is based, Jamie is married to Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson). The scene of the Scotsman hugging someone may be a clue about how that came about.
Jamie lost a child and his wife, and thinks that he will never meet with his beloved Sassenach again. The girl he is hugging in the trailer maybe Marsali (Lauren Lyle), the daughter of Laoghaire.
In his pain, the young Scotsman may find some solace in caring for Laoghaire and her daughter. At least this is one way of unfolding his storyline.
While Jamie tries to deal with the loss and pain he feels, Claire will attempt to do the same in the future. She concentrates on becoming a doctor, but work may not be enough to distract her. She also has her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) to care for.
In the previous season, Claire agreed to raise her daughter with Frank, but hide details about her real father. The fans will now get to see how the Sassenach raises her child over the years.
In the flash forward, “Outlander” season 3 will begin with Claire going to America with Frank. Her journey this time around will span over decades, which will include the birth of Brianna and also her graduation. The trailer also teases Jamie’s continued strong love for the Sassenach and his determination to find her one day.
