A new Chinese character is set to be introduced in “Outlander” Season 3. Casting of the TV series has begun, but no announcements have been made yet. Filming of the next season is expected to begin soon.

[Spoiler alert]

The next season of the TV series is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book “Voyager.” In the book a Chinese character joins Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) in their high seas adventure, according to Vine Report.

According to the report, the character Yi Tien Cho is expected to appear in the next season. The character is an exiled scholar from the government of Imperial China. He is discovered on the docks of Edinburgh by Jamie as a stow away on a ship.

Yi Tien Cho is given the nickname Mr. Willoughby by Jamie in the books. He joins the Scottish warrior and his wife Claire as they travel together to the Caribbean.

Another new character that is expected to be introduced in “Outlander” Season 3 is Laoghaire MacKenzie’s (Nell Hudson) daughter Marsali. In the books she is a 15-years old girl who is aboard the same ship as Jamie and Claire. The report notes that the producers are yet to confirm that the two characters will be introduced on the show.

Perhaps the biggest character in the next season, and one that has been confirmed to appear, is Lord John Grey. The character was introduced in the second season as the young William Grey (Oscar Kennedy). He will now appear as an older man and as the Governor of Ardsmuir Prison.

Lord John Grey will run into Jamie in “Outlander” Season 3. The two characters form an awkward alliance in the book series. More details about the plot and the new characters will be revealed closer to the premiere of the next season, which will be some time in 2017.
