Diana Gabaldon will soon be heading to South Africa to join the cast and crew of “Outlander” season 3, who are already there filming. The production is currently taking place in Cape Town.

Gabaldon will be travelling sometime this week to meet Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Sam Heughan (Jamie) and the others on the set, the author said in a post on Twitter. The celebrity author will be there for two weeks to observe all the action on set, and see her work brought to life right in front of her eyes.

This is the first time that Gabaldon is going to South Africa, and she said she is looking forward to the trip. Fans are hoping to read her reports from the set, and see the photos. The author has, in the past, shared spoiler free photos from the set.

While Gabaldon will be there to observe the filming process, she will not be taking part in it. The author previously had a cameo appearance on the show, and even wrote the scripts for an episode, but for “Outlander” season 3 she will be just there to watch and to consult.

For the past few months Gabaldon has been busy working on her next book. She recently finished the last novella in her “Seven Stones” series. In the last few days of the “final frenzy,” when she is completing a book, the writer said that she has to forgo everything, except the absolute necessities like food. Now that her book is complete, and she is relatively free, she can visit the set of the Starz TV series.

Someone who got the opportunity to visit the set in Cape Town recently is Reporter Lynette Rice. She shared a picture on her Twitter page from one of the ship sets of the show. She is not allowed to reveal any spoilers of the plot, but may have an update about the show soon.

While the fans wait for more updates, a deleted scene from the second season of the show has been posted on YouTube. The scene is from a dream sequence in the second episode, in which Claire heals her husband’s injury and they both make love.

Meanwhile, Co-executive Producer Matthew B. Roberts has shared new pictures. One of the pictures is of the ships being used for filming “Outlander” season 3, while the other is that of a flower that was taken while they were out scouting for locations in South Africa to film.
