While fans have seen new characters like Lord John Grey (David Berry) and Joe Abernathy (Wil Johnson), not all new characters of “Outlander” season 3 have been introduced. Starz is yet to make relevant casting announcements. One of the new characters this year is Harold Grey, and a cryptic post by actor Sam Hoare appears to confirm his role in the series.

Since reports of Hoare playing the role of Harold Grey hit the internet, the actor has been getting new followers on Twitter. Hoare is not allowed to make announcements about his casting, though, but he could not refrain himself from “meeting” the fans.

In a tweet, which neither confirms nor denies reports of his casting, he said he will let time tell whether or not he is in the show. He curiously used capital letters in the words “HAppy” and “GREat.” This appears to be a hint that he is playing Hal Grey on the show.

Harold Grey is Duke of Pardloe, Earl of Melton and Colonel of the 46th Regiment of Foot. He is also the older brother of Lord John Grey. The character is an important part in Diana Gabaldon’s books, which the plot of the TV series is based on. The following portion of this article contains spoilers.

The trailers of next season show how Jamie (Sam Heughan) will survive the Battle of Culloden. As part of the surviving prisoners, he should ideally be shot. It is Harold Grey who stops the execution of the Scottish warrior, sending him home to Lallybroch.

“Outlander” season 3 is set to premiere on Sept 10. Unlike the book “Voyager,” on which most of the plot is based this year, the series will show the actual events of the Battle of Culloden. In the battle, Jamie will be going toe-to-toe with Black Jack (Tobias Menzies).
