Co-executive Producer Matthew B. Roberts has teased a new behind-the-scenes picture from the production set of “Outlander” season 3. This is the first official picture from the production set in South Africa, where the production crew is busy at work, and the cast members will begin filming soon.

The picture is from below the decks of a ship. The producers will be using the same ships that Starz previously used for their other original series “Black Sails.” The pirate series is set a few years before the events in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel “Treasure Island,” and it is currently airing its final season.

Roberts appears to be one of the first producers to land in South Africa to inspect the sets and get ready for filming. The cast and crew will begin with scenes on a ship and later shift to the Caribbean scenes.

The picture in itself is not a spoiler, but Roberts teased that the pictures he shares do contain clues about the plot, and it is up to the fans to figure them out. He promised to share pictures that reveal a lot more when the show airs.

“Outlander” season 3 is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book “Voyager.” In the book, the main characters Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) travel on a ship named Artemis, shortly after their highly anticipated reunion.

Just after sharing the picture, Roberts had to face some interesting comments from some of the fans. The producer decided to do a quick poll in order to make sure the fans are interested in the teasers he shares. He got a thumping confirmation that the behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets are more than welcome.

Commenting specifically about the few fans who had complained to Roberts online, the producer pointed out that his Twitter page is not a complaint box for the show. He also added that those who have concerns with his posts have the option of not following him. Comments of hope and wishes, however, are always welcome, he said.

While some fans don’t want to see any spoilers, others can’t get enough. When Roberts announced the results of his poll, and that he would be sharing more behind-the-scenes pictures, one of fans asked him to “start sharing.” The amused producer explained that he had “just” shared a picture of a ship from the set.

Filming of “Outlander” season 3 is set to wrap by June, and the show will premiere in September. Starz is yet to announce an exact release date.
