“Outlander” Season 2 promises a lot of action and intrigue. Cast members Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe spoke about their characters and the show in separate interviews and shared details about the next season.

[Spoiler alert]

Jamie [Heughan] will learn to be “deceitful” in the next season, Balfe said during the Television Critics Association panel discussion, TV Insider reports. The actress said that her character will get to see a side of Jamie that she didn’t know existed.

Balfe [Claire] also felt that she got to know her character on the show a lot better this time around, because the plot allowed her to “be in one place and contemplate.” She will have her own challenges to deal with, however. Apart from her pregnancy, Claire will also have to help her husband overcome the traumatic experience from the first season.

Even though Jamie appeared to have recovered from the rape and torture at the hands of Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) in the previous season, he will still be affected by the incident in the next season, Heughan revealed. “A revelation” will apparently bring the “old Jamie” back and he will put “his whole body and soul into this mission,” Heughan revealed.

The main focus of “Outlander” Season 2 will not be on Jamie’s mental state, but their mission to stop the Battle of Culloden. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Balfe teased that there will be some big action scenes in the next season.

Talking about her favourite scene from the next season, Balfe teased that it involved her and her fellow cast member Heughan riding horses in a scene that was a build up for a battle. “We had this long line of an army coming behind us and we were galloping across the field and the sun was out you have the mountains in the background,” the actress teased.

Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore revealed that “Outlander” Season 2 will not just be about the battles and action sequences, but will also focus on some drama. Moore said that the next season will show how Claire’s pregnancy will affect her relationship with Jamie.
