A new cast member has joined “The Orville” TV series in season 2. She will be a new addition to the crew of the ship.

Actress Jessica Szohr has been cast in the popular sci-fi show, Deadline reports. The name of her character hasn’t been revealed yet, but the report confirms that she will be a show regular.

Szohr has extensive experience in the industry. She had been part of shows like “Shameless,” “Twin Peaks,” “Kingdom” and “Gossip Girl.” She has also worked in movies like “Ted 2,” “Piranha 3D” and “Two Night Stand.”

It will be interesting to see what role Szohr will play in “The Orville.” The show already focuses on a large crew onboard the ship. It isn’t clear if Szohr will play a human or a new alien species.

Each crew member comes with a unique and interesting background and personality. Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) and Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) were once married, with their current relationship best described as complicated. Bortus (Peter Macon) comes from an all-male species, and he, too, is facing marital problems with his partner. Alara (Halston Sage) has super strength but has some vulnerabilities, including an apprehension when given a leadership position. Isaac (Mark Jackson) is an artificial life form. The doctor, Claire (Penny Johnson Jerald), has to deal with two naughty kids at home. Gordon (Scott Grimes) and John LaMarr (J. Lee) are good friends and the troublemakers. Finally, Yaphit (Norm MacDonald) is an alien belonging to a jelly species.

How Szohr’s character fits into this group of misfits will be interesting to see. “The Orville” season 2 is expected to premiere sometime later this year. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date.
