Australian actor Nathaniel Buzolic officially confirmed his return to The CW’s “The Originals” as his vampire character Kol Mikaelson. Buzolic portrayed Kol in “The Vampire Diaries” and in the first few episodes of “The Originals.” But he was temporarily replaced by English actor Daniel Sharman, who plays Kaleb Westphall, a French Quarter coven witch. Kol possessed Kaleb in the show that’s why Nathaniel had to take a backseat. “The Originals” Season 3 will premiere on Thursday night, Oct. 8 at 9/8c on the CW Network.

Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major “The Originals” spoilers.

Buzolic, 31, admitted in an interview with TVLine that he is excited to reprise the role of Kol Mikaelson and continue to explore the character in “The Originals” Season 3 even though he has been cast in CW Network’s upcoming new series titled “Significant Mother.” Buzolic further added he is “always blown away” with the support of the fans and their constant request to bring Kol back.

“I made it clear when I signed on to Significant Mother that I wanted to also be available for The Originals if the opportunity came up,” Buzolic said in the TVLine interview. The Aussie actor expressed gratitude to Plec, the series creator and executive producer of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals,” for the opportunity to star in the hit CW TV series.

Buzolic admits he will “always have a soft spot” for the Kol Mikaelson role because the casting has been a life-changing experience. However, Buzolic divulged that Kol’s appearance in “The Originals” Season 3 will only be through flashback scenes.

“From what I understand, this is going to be a flashback-heavy season,” Buzolic shared. He still finds the opportunity “cool” because it means Kol can appear in several episodes and the fans can see more of the Mikaelson sibling.

When it comes to Kol’s present-time return, the only chance for that to happen is through Davina Claire, played by Danielle Campbell. Davina promised Kol that she will resurrect him and she may be able to do that as the new Regent of the witch community in New Orleans. Buzolic even posted a photo of him and Campbell three weeks ago on his official Instagram account, as a nod to the reunion of Kol and Davina or "Kolvina."

Aside from bringing back familiar faces, “The Originals” Season 3 will also be introducing new ones. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Andrew Lees, Rebecca Breeds and Jason Dohring has been cast in the upcoming new season as the new recurring characters Lucien, Aurora and Detective Kinney, respectively.
