Actress Laverne Cox has been cast as Dr Frank-N-Furter in Fox’s upcoming television remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Cox’s character is a mad scientist bent on creating the perfect life form to serve as her sexual plaything. Dr. Frank-N-Furter holds an annual Transylvanian science convention to celebrate the birth of his creation, “Rocky Horror.”

The 31-year-old actress shared the news Wednesday on her Instagram account. Cox’s post immediately gained more than 4,869 likes and received positive comments from her fans.

“I am so excited that the news is out. I am so honored to be a part of the Rocky Horror legacy. #DontDreamItBeIt #TransIsBeautiful,” she said.

Deadline reports that the show will run for two hours, and is set to air on Fox channel next fall. It will be shown in celebration of the film’s 40 years of theatrical distribution.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” follows the lives of couple Janet Weiss and Brad Majors who stumble upon a strange castle and meet Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

The iconic character Dr. Frank-N-Furter was originally played by actor Tim Curry in a Broadway play and in a film released in 1975.

The show is from Fox 21 Television Studios and The Jackal Group. Lou Adler will reprise her role as the executive producer alongside The Jackal Group’s co-owner Gail Berman. Emmy-winner Kenny Ortega has been roped in to co-executive produce, direct and choreograph the show.

Cox currently stars as transgender inmate Sophia Burset in “Orange Is The New Black.” Last year, she was nominated several times for her role in the series.

In April, she won Outstanding Special Class Special for her documentary “Laverne Cox: The T Word” at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
